Strength training forms the basis of rehabilitation programmes, and quite rightly! Being able to produce force and control load has a positive impact on the treatment of many musculoskeletal injuries, as well as improving functional outcomes for patients.
However, just giving a patient “strength training” – without understanding the goal and the relationship of the rehabilitation programme to it – can leave the patient with sub-optimal programming.
Strength training isn’t a binary concept.
